Bukhara (translated into English as “lucky place”) is the holiest city of Central Asia, the buildings have a thousand year of history. The region of Bukhara has been one of he main centres of Iranian civilisation and also a long time the part of the Persian Empire. In modern Bukhara you can see the traces of Russian influence from the communist area.

Bukhara was also a home of many Jews who settled in the city during Roman times. Nowadays you will find just a few in this area.

The government invested a lot of many into restoration to keep all this unique historical buildings, so Bukhara is still very popular cultural destination for tourists.

Sights & Activities

  • Lyab-I Hauz – a plaza build around a pool and shaded by old trees
  • Po-i-Kalyan ("The foot of the Great") belongs to the architectural complex located at the foot of the great minaret Kalyan
  • The Ismail Samani mausoleum (9th-10th century) - one of the most esteemed sights of Central Asian architecture, was built in the 9th century as the resting-place of Ismail Samani (the founder of the last Persian dynasty in Central Asia - Samanid dynasty)                     
  • Countless Bazaars
  • The Ark – a royal town within a town – the oldest structure of Bukhara
  • Museum of Arts - painting by Bukhara artist in the 20th century. The museum is located in the former headquarter of the Russian Central Asian Bank
  • Kalon Minaret – one of the tallest buildings in Central Asia, 47m tall with 10m deep foundations. The building has 14 different ornamental bands, everyone is in own way beautiful and fascinating
